Driving, Holidays, and Mental Heath

It is cozy season and with that comes the warm fireplaces, hot apple cider or hot cocoa, and fresh warm snacks to enjoy with a good show or movie. I have been indulging myself in a good book and cozying up to my digital fireplace for ambiance and filling my home with sound of crackling wood.

This week we will be in full holiday mode with all the festivities coming up. November 15th was Diwali, for us in the US, Thanksgiving is tomorrow, as well as other holidays such as Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, and many others respective to their culture. With all these celebrations nearing, so does the time for traveling to see loved ones and enjoy time with one another. With air fare being back to high prices, the most common form of travel for the holidays is driving.

On the road we try out best to be safe and cautious to make it to our destination. However, somethings are out of our control. Vehicle accidents happen everyday and although it can happen to anyone, no one talks about the mental toll it leaves. I have also been a victim of a traumatic car accident that left me with PSTD when cars are going too fast behind me when I am at a stop. Many people suffer from the fear of the accident reoccurring the same way. The endless cycle goes on but there a way to to easy the anxiety that comes with getting back on the road.
